Liberia's President Visits Logos Hope
“Knowledge is the one thing that propels any person, any group, any nation,” began Her Excellency Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of the Republic of Liberia during her visit to the Operation Mobilisation (OM) vessel Logos Hope. “When you come and get us exposed to the books you have, you contribute a whole lot to our rebuilding process,” the distinguished visitor said about the 6,000 different educational and Christian titles that Logos Hope makes available around the world.
Her Excellency’s passion for children, literature and education were clearly on display during her visit on Tuesday August 17th. After meeting the ship’s captain and director during a special onboard event to welcome her, she then headed to the vessel’s book fair to browse the selection of literature and mingle with local citizens. Younger visitors were somewhat taken aback, but also delighted, to see their country’s leader. Before departing, she expressed her desire for the ship to return soon, echoing the view of many who have stepped on board in this West African nation recovering from war.
The President’s visit came during the same week that Logos Hope passed a ministry milestone – the one millionth visitor to the book fair since the vessel’s launch last year. The programme in Liberia has also seen crew complete many practical assistance projects inland and donate literature to educational institutions that together will leave a legacy of God’s love.
Logos Hope is staffed by 350 Christian volunteers from over 40 different countries who serve on board to bring knowledge, help and hope to the people of the world. The ship departs Liberia on Thursday August 26th and will sail for port communities in the Canary Islands and Mediterranean. For further details visit www.omships.org. |
