TeenStreet began in a pizza place in the Netherlands, in September 1992. Four people sat around a pizza and dreamed of an international Congress for Teens. The name TeenStreet was all about showing teens a street (or way of life) to go or travel on. The following is an outline of the last 13 years of TeenStreet and their highlights. After much prayer and planning, the first TeenStreet took place in the summer of 1993. There were 56 people who came to the Offenburg school and the theme was: "You can Change your World" The second year, 1994, was in Friedrichoffen and over 200 came. We looked at the life of Jonah and saw we are "Living in an Upside Down World". Then we took the growing congress to Wolfsburg in 1995 for "Another Day in Paradise". Together our growing group of over 500 looked past today into a future with Jesus in Heaven. The following year, 1996, we grew to 712 and met in Mosbach. We studied Noah's life and learned about the unique relationship between God and man, and came to understand that we are His "Original Copies". During the week there was a "Beach Party" at the Mosbach pool, where the participants of TeenStreet shared Jesus with the people from the city. TeenStreet in 1997 returned to Offenburg, but this time to the Congress park. 1286 met at what was called the "Theater of Life". We came to understand that all around us is an audience, made up of God, our families, friends and foes. The question was asked, "in the spot light how will we act?" Also added in 1997 was "TNT" (Teens Need Teens). It started as an inline Skate Sponsor Rally. The money that was raised went to buy a bus for a street kids ministry in the Philippines. 1997 was our first year to start the "Bring a Friend" concept (allowing discounted prices according to how many friends were brought). The difficult part was that many friends that came were not Christians, which brought a whole new dimension to TeenStreet. Then we went back to Wolfsburg in 1998 where 1300 gathered together to "Dare to Dream". We realized God's big dreams for our lives and chose to live His dreams or our own lives. The "TNT" money raised went to support Schools in India. This was the first year we introduced the "CLS" (Community Lifestyle Statement), a document that was signed by every participant, stating that we would agree to a certain standard of living during the time we were together at TeenStreet. After TeenStreet, the first official TiM team went to Poland for evangelism (28 teens and coaches). (There were other international teen outreaches in Poland before that, but not official TiM teams). In 1999, we returned again to Offenburg where we got caught up with 1822 others in the "InsideOut Revolution". Ephesians was the book we studied, we memorized Ephesians 5, and we were challenged to let the Revolution change us inside and then let it move out to our world. The "TNT" money raised again went to support Schools in India. Following TeenStreet, international teen groups went on TiM experiences to Italy, Poland, and Czech Republic. In 2000, we were in Mosbach with over 2000 others to learn about the "IMAGE". Like a pair of glasses, everything we see is enhanced or distorted by our "IMAGE". We learned about God - his view on things, and how taking that viewpoint with God, we will see things through His eyes. We studied the life of Moses and memorized Psalm 139. The "TNT" money raised went to sponsor a boy's school in Sudan. The "TiM" training this year became more structured before sending the teams out to 5 destinations with 15-20 teens going to each destination. In 2001, 2740 of us met in Offenburg. The theme was "KINGDOM COME". We introduced the TeenStreet DoubleVision with a Pair of Glasses - Loving God by having God time, Living "the Walk" and surrounding ourselves with "My Net". We can love People by our Support, Serve and telling our Story. We studied the Sermon on the Mount from Matthew 5-7 and memorized Luke 6. We want to see God's desires, His Kingdom Come and His Kingdom lived out on earth through us! The "TNT" money raised went again to sponsor the boy's school in Sudan. The "TiM" teams going out afterward were involved in Service, Support and telling their Story. Extra: February 9-16, 2002 we held the first non-European TeenStreet in Montivideo, Uruguay. It was connected with Love Uruguay. 75 participants from 13 countries attended TeenStreet. 90% of the participants went on their own TiM experiences across Uruguay. In July 2002, we found the KEY in Oldenburg, Germany. "Secrets Revealed" opened the treasure on how to successfully live "the Adventure called Life". We traveled from the "Land of Hard Times", through the "Desert of Keep Going", down the difficult "Road of Choices" and finally found rest in the "Oasis of Peace". 1 Peter 4 was memorized. The "TNT" project was changed to a new concept, "Reflect 100", where each team spent time raising money to support people with AIDS in Southern Africa. They did this through service projects, supporting in prayer, and telling their story. TiM experiences again went out to various countries. 2003 was where we took a Journey of Discovery with the theme “Re: Discover Jesus”. Many spent time in the Re:Actor to Discover what Jesus was doing in other places in our world. The Sponsorship race saw hundreds completing the course in unusual and even bizarre ways! In 2004, we were back in Oldenburg, Germany where we buckled up for the drive of our lives with the theme “Driving at the Speed of Life”. We came to understand that every person not only has a purpose to love God and people, but also a DRIVE. It is that God-given force, deep inside each person, that creates motivation towards significance. A total of 3623 people from 27 nations were given the choice to park or to “Drive at the Speed of Life”. In 2005 we stepped into the “Time Machine,” to understand our place in the NOW by “Remembering the FUTURE.” 2006 was “Metamorphosis” where 4000 gathered to discover what it means to fly! And as we reflect on TeenStreet’s past, present, and future, we praise God! We pray that, as a result of God's friendship in us, people both young and old will have stronger friendships with Jesus. Our lives and the lives of these teens will affect history! May future generations look back and say: “these ones loved God and loved people.” |
