Flashflood and Landslide on Lake Tanganyika's Shore - AFRICA
Early in the morning on 21 February, two villages on the shore of Lake Tanganyika were devastated by a landslide and flash flood. OM Africa has ministry teams working in remote villages along Lake Tanganyika shore.

In Tongwa, a village where three OM workers are living, a flash flood swept through the village, damaging the clinic and school, and collapsing several homes. Thankfully no one was killed. However, in Kalala, a nearby village, eight people were killed by a landslide that crushed all the homes in its path.

The flash floods happened early in the morning before sunrise. The people were terrified. Many lost their possessions, food and cash, which is a problem since there are no banks, in the flood. The stream is the only source of drinking water for the village and even though the water is now brown with mud, the people have nothing else to drink. Also, due to the damage, there is now only one meter of ground between the school and the drop off into the stream and the walls and floor of the school are cracked.

The people in Tongwa are afraid to sleep inside their houses for fear that they will collapse if it rains again. The school is closed, and the fishermen are also afraid to go out and fish, which is their only source of income. They suspect there is witchcraft behind the flood. The government promised tents and food to those who had lost their homes, but as yet nothing has been provided.

Please pray for peace and unity among the people in the villages and for wisdom for those in leadership making decisions. Pray for opportunities to share the Gospel with those in need and for strength and protection for those coming in to help. Finances toward rebuilding efforts can be sent to OM Lake Tanganyika (Fund number 88300).

INUNDACIONES Y ALUDES EN LA COSTA DEL LAGO TANGANYIKA - África

Afortunadamente no hubo víctimas fatales.

Proyecto OM Lake Tanganyika.

Zambia

Zambia and Lake Tanganyika read more...

Zambia is a landlocked country that is exceptionally peaceful, considering that it is surrounded by countries which have experienced major political struggles. Zambia has been declared an official Christian nation with 87 percent of its people proclaiming to be Christian. However, the number of immigrants from the Middle East and Asia has increased in recent years, and more people now proclaim themselves to be either Muslim or Hindu. When the OM Zambia leaders saw the spiritual desolation and the inroads other religious groups were making around Lake Tanganyika, the first OM team was sent to the area in 2005, establishing their base in the harbour town of Mpulungu. The team was called the ‘Good News II’, after the vision of Dr. David Livingstone.
