We need people to join us for three weeks of children’s ministry in UK schools and churches this Christmas season.  OM UK does children’s ministry in primary schools (children from 4 – 11 years old) under the name ‘Luke Theatre Group’. You will be joining us for three weeks of children’s ministry in UK primary schools and churches this Christmas season. The aim of the show is to present the real meaning of the Christian festival of Christmas in a creative way that children can enjoy and understand.

Working in a team of four people, you will learn a 30-minute show which you will then perform many times over a three week period. You will take part in puppet songs and stories, plus other elements of the programme if you are interested. We hope to have around 20 performances in schools and churches in various parts of the UK. You can expect to see over 2000 children during the tour, the majority of which are in state schools, do not attend church and may have no other opportunity to hear the real message of Christmas.

You will arrive the week before the tour begins for two days of training and rehearsal, learning the show. We then have three weeks of performing, in schools on weekdays and in churches on Sundays. The detailed schedule is as follows:

Participant Profile

Experience of working with children, especially in a church context, would be useful but not essential. The main requirements are the ability to relate to children and a desire to help them discover God. You do not need to have used puppets before, as training will be given. You do need to have enough physical mobility to kneel behind a puppet stage, carry some light equipment and take part in lively action songs.

OM UK is committed to safeguarding all those we work with, and you will be required to provide the relevant documentation during the application process.

Accommodation

During the majority of the time you will be staying in our training centre in Halesowen, near Birmingham, with other residents including students on our English language programme. It is possible that we may stay away overnight once or twice, in which case the churches we work with will provide accommodation.

Food

Food will be provided. We need to know in advance of any special dietary needs (vegetarian, dairy-free, food allergies, gluten-free, etc.).

Travel:

You need to arrange your own travel to Birmingham. Arrival is before 5:00pm on 27th November. You can arrive anytime in the morning or early afternoon. Departure is on 21st December, 2019.

Married couples are welcome at this option, but may be required to sleep separately.

Health

You should be in average good health and have sufficient physical mobility to perform in children’s programmes and carry staging and equipment. If you think this requirement rules you out, talk to us and we will see what adjustments we may be able to make for you.

Notes

Applicants must be 18 or over.

Price excludes travel to and from the outreach.

As part of our Safeguarding policy, you require a valid enhanced DBS certificate which will cost an additional £20.
