Our purpose is to offer medical care and to preach the Gospel to the poor, practically demonstrating the love of Christ and compassion to those in need.

A medical team (general practitioners, paediatricians, eye specialists, ENT specialists), both from Romania and other countries will be looking to provide basic medical care and to preach the Gospel, in this way supporting the local church in evangelism. The outreach will take place in a poor village that belongs to the Black Sea area.

Ministry Details

The team will provide medical examinations to people that do not normally have access to these services. Participants are asked to bring their scrubs/uniform, stethoscope and blood pressure gauge to the outreach. In addition to this, you could bring some more medical equipment that you might need, as well as vitamin supplements, painkillers, anti-parasite medicine etc.

Participant Profile

This placement is recommended for medical students looking for an internship as well as medical doctors or nurses interested in serving in Romania.

Accommodation

We will probably stay in tents. Toilet facilities may be primitive and shower facilities may be primitive and/or limited. There may not be laundry facilities. Please ensure you have your own sleeping bag.

Food

We will provide all meals in partnership with the local church.

Travel

Please arrange your travel to and from airport Henry Coanda, Otopeni/Bucuresti (OTP). If you arrive before 13:00, OM will pick you up there and arrange your ongoing travel. Please note that it may be necessary to wait at the airport for other international team members.

Also for departure, please ensure your flight time is not before 15:00. If you are not able to arrive and leave at these times, please don't buy a ticket until there is an agreement with your OM office.

Please do not book any flights until you have applied and received an acceptance email from the short term missions team.

Health

All applicants are required to have a complete Traveller's Medical Insurance policy to cover the entire period. Please contact your local GP for vaccination requirements. You need to be in good health to be able to participate with us. (Please let us know of any allergies/conditions during your application process.)

Visa

British citizens will not need a visa to enter Romania.

Notes 

Individuals applying must be 21 or over.

Families are welcome to apply. Children under 13 will be included on their parent’s application form. 13-17 year olds coming as part of their family can apply using the relevant button below.

Price excludes flights, insurance and any possible vaccinations, and is subject to change according to the exchange rate.

As part of our safeguarding policy, you may require a valid enhanced DBS certificate which will cost an additional £20. 

The common team language will be English but the locals will speak Romanian. Do not expect them to know or be confident enough to speak English. There will be a translator on your team. In your acceptance pack, we will send you  some basic phrases to learn too (Handbook Welcome to Romania).
