STEP OUT is a short term programme that provides practical mission training and experience hands-on mission in Asia.

After the STEP OUT conference, you have the option to join an outreach in either Taiwan, South East Asia, Myanmar, South Korea, Singapore, Philippines, Laos, Thailand, Papua New Guinea, Cambodia or Nepal. The details, age restrictions and costs of each option are further down the page. 

Please note that the outreach costs next to each option include the conference costs. Some teams fill up quickly each year!

Ministry Details

Sat, 27 July: Arrive at Taiwan for conference. All participants will have dinner together before the first programme starts.

28 -30 July : This includes main sessions, interaction sessions, team building, different practical workshops, evangelism tools, cross-cultural awareness, prayer night, communion and a 'Sending Off' service. The conference will end in the evening of 30th July.

On the 31st July the participants who applied for an outreach will depart to their outreach location.

Participant Profile

We are looking for people who love Jesus and have a desire to share the gospel. No previous experience is necessary as this could be your starting point! Additionally, if you have a heart for Asia but are not sure where to start, this programme is definitely designed for you. Another distinctive feature for STEP OUT is the BILINGUAL conference (English and Chinese)! You should also be flexible as outreach schedules may change due to circumstances in the countries.

Accommodation

You will sleep in simple dormitories during the conference. You will have simple accommodation during the outreach.

Food

You will be offered Taiwanese food at the conference and local food during the outreach of the country you are in. Special dietary requirements must be communicated in advance.

Travel

Participants must arrange and pay for their own travel from home country - Taoyuan International Airport(TPE), Taiwan - outreach country (if applicable) - home country.

For the conference, you should arrange your flight to Taoyuan International Airport(TPE), Taiwan. Airport pick-up will be arranged on the arrival day for those that arrive before 15.00pm. 

Transportation from the conference venue to the airport will be arranged on the departure day.

For those joining an outreach, you will be sent travel details and suggested flights/travel arrangements once you have been accepted. Please email [email protected] if you require more information.

Please Do not book flights until you have been accepted and had confirmation from the team that minimum numbers have been met for the outreach.

Health

You should be in average good health, and must obtain appropriate emergency health, medical, and travel insurance.

Visa & Passport

British citizens can spend up to 90 days in Taiwan without a visa. Specific rules exist for naturalised British Citizens born in the People’s Republic of China and holders of British National (Overseas) passports wishing to enter under the visa waiver scheme.

Your passport should be valid for a minimum period of six months from the date of entry into Taiwan or your outreach country.

Outreach Options

South East Asia - Indonesia


British citizens do not require a visa to enter Indonesia for less than 30 days.You will travel with your teammates to an Island which is one hour away from Singapore. The team will be involved with children's and youth work. You'll need to pay for a return ferry after the conference to the island which will cost around 60 USD for a return ticket. You'll depart home on 5th August.

Myanmar

You will be involved in local mission based on an educational programme. We warmly welcome those who have a  passion for making a difference in people’s lives by using their gifts and talents. You'll depart home on 5th August.

British citizens will require a visa for this outreach at an additional cost.

Singapore

This outreach is to the elderly and needy living in one room flats as well as prostitutes and pimps from the red-light district, who need a listening ear. You'll also visit a church and encourage the Christian community as well as enjoy local hospitality, food and culture. You'll depart home on 5th August.

British citizens will require a tourist visa for this outreach at an additional cost.

Taiwan

This outreach is to the least-reached people group in Taiwan. You'll depart home on 5th August. More details will be provided soon.

Japan - Sorry, this option is now full.

The outreach place is in and around Tome, a town in Miyagi prefecture, about 2 hours North of Sendai in North-Eastern Japan.

We will focus on teaching and training participants in practical ministry skills, such as sharing the gospel, sharing your testimonies, praying for sick people, and encouraging local believers. You will have opportunity to go to and pray and reach out in unreached towns where there is no church or missionaries. You will also reach out at Tanabata, a 3-day festival in Sendai city that attracts many international and local tourists. You'll depart home on 8th August.

British citizens do not require a visa to enter Japan for less than 90 days but you may need to provide evidence of your return ticket/onward travel.

Thailand

This team will be ministering to school students (activities and evangelism), going to villages visiting local families, having cross-cultural experiences, learning about local beliefs and be involved in homeless ministry. You'll be in simple accommodation and for a few days will sleep on the floor, so please bring a sleeping bag, mat and mosquito repellent. 

This is a rough outline: 31 July-7 August The team will be doing outreach in the Kampangphet province (Arrive at DMK airport then Transportation from Bangkok to Kampangphet will be by mini bus around 4-5 hours ride). 7-9 August The team will do outreach in Bangkok. The team will travel back by mini bus. 9 August Departure home (suggested time in the afternoon and from BKK airport).

British citizens do not require a visa to visit Thailand for less than 30 days.

South Korea


British citizens can enter South Korea for less than 90 days as a tourist without a visa.The outreach will be located a 2 cities in South Korea, Seoul & Busan.  The focus is on learning more about the culture in Korea, mainly doing children's ministry and other event based ministries with other organisations.

There will be 2 types of outreach the team will take part in. First, is children's ministry with a local church helping children with low income and disabilities. The second is doing an English camp with second generation North Korean children with a school that has been supporting this ministry for a long time. There will be other event based ministries we may take part in. You'll depart home on 10th August from Gimhae International Airport (Busan). 

Papua New Guinea

The team are going to be doing ministry in the city, by going to different schools, visiting churches to do youth and children's ministry, spending time with people who have a disability and street kid's ministry too. You'll depart home on 10th August.

British citizens require a visa which you should be able to obtain on arrival.

Philippines (Manila)

This team are going to be doing ministry in the city, by going to different schools, visiting churches to do youth and children's ministry, spending time with people who have a disability and street kid's ministry too. You'll depart home on 10th August. More information will be provided shortly.

Philippines (Palawan)

You will visit up to 3 different tribal communities where you will evangelise together with your team and also be part of the discipleship programme the local partner pastor is running. You will visit our new Tribal Mission Training Centre called “Ethnos” where you will help to prepare it for further development. This centre is still at the beginning stages and you can be part of this..

British citizens do not require a visa to visit the Philippines for less than 30 days.

Cambodia

Come and explore God's work in Cambodia.

You will do a variety of activities, visiting the Killing Fields, prayer walks, helping in our Learning Centre (teaching English, playing games, singing, Bible stories, drama), doing slum visits with our counselling staff, doing outreach in the provinces, children's ministry, helping with practical work and more! You'll depart home 10th August.

British citizens require a visa which you can obtain beforehand online or on arrival at the airport, if you have a passport photograph, for around 30 USD.

Laos

Come and catch a glimpse of what God is doing in this Communist nation. You will have the opportunity to meet and work with local believers while reaching out to kids and those visiting our café. Have a prayerful heart and expect the unexpected. The most important thing you will be doing is praying for and in this country while encouraging local believers. You may also be involved with English teaching. You'll depart home 10th August.

British citizens require a visa which you can obtain beforehand online or on arrival at the airport, if you have a passport photograph, for around 35 USD.

South Asia

The team will be hosted in a teamflat, guesthouse or our training centre. While on trek you will stay with team members or in local houses. The outreaches will take place in Kathmandu or in one of our focus districts. The main goal of this outreach is trekking ministry in the mountains. You'll depart home on 16th August.

A tourist visa will be required.

Notes 

Individuals applying must be 18 or over unless stated otherwise.

Under 18s are welcome to apply and join the conference only option but must have parental consent and be accompanied by a responsible adult. Children under 13 will be included on their parent’s application form. 13-17 year olds can apply using the shortened teenagers form below. Unfortunately, we cannot cater for families on the outreaches after the conference.

Price excludes flights, insurance, visas & any possible vaccinations and is subject to change according to the exchange rate.

As part of our Safeguarding policy, you may require a valid enhanced DBS certificate which will cost an additional £20.
