The MDT UK Voluntary Worker will become part of the MDT Team offering pastoral support and encouragement to the students. You will share and provide input in discipleship and the development of mission thinking and practice. You will also take some basic administration responsibilities.

We are looking for a volunteer to join our OM UK MDT Team in Birmingham. This is a commitment of 35 hours per week, 5 days a week for 3 months.

Ministry Details

Your roles would include:

  • Pastoral support of students
  • Encourage development of personal discipleship
  • Encourage the mission thinking and practice of the students
  • Basic administration
  • Integrate into the MDT community
  • Spend social time with the MDT students
  • Develop the social aspects of the MDT program
  • Share personal experiences of Christian experience
  • Support students in personal development
  • Support small group Bible studies and prayer groups
  • Share personal mission experience
  • Support visits and off-site experiences, which will involve other OM UK bases
  • Share in debriefs and reflections
  • Support teaching staff in preparation of material
  • Administration to support students such as dealing with money, receipts, transport etc

Participant Profile

  • You must be fluent in English. You should be passionate about the discipleship and growth of young people and have some short-term mission experience. Preferable Skills:
  • Sociable, outgoing and willing to take initiative
  • Able to relate well to young adults
  • Willingness to develop discipleship skills
  • Team player and willing to join in community life


Shared accommodation is provided.


Food is provided, but other costs will need to be covered by the individual.


You will need to make your way to Birmingham. Details on venue will be provided upon acceptance.


You should be in good health.


Applicants must be 18 or over. Price excludes travel costs.

The price includes OMUK’s Getting into Gear weekend (GiG), in Shropshire, which you can attend either 5th-8th April or 7th-10th June 2019. This is a weekend of training and orientation.

As part of our Safeguarding policy, you may require a valid enhanced DBS certificate which will cost an additional £20. 

Successful applicants will be provided with shared accommodation. We will also cover all the work travel. 
The successful applicant will need finances for personal living costs, such as travel, mobile bills, etc. We estimate that costs will be about £100 GBP per month.

Other roles may be able to accommodate a GAP year student depending on the skills and experience you offer and the current situation with the ministry you are interested in.  Please enquire.
