The UK Mercy Appeal is a vital source of funding for our teams around the world, helping them respond to urgent cries for help from people in crisis.
OM Zambia have schools providing education to children in remote and vulnerable areas known locally as ‘compounds’ (another word for slum). Areas like Makwati and Nakoli on the outskirts of Kabwe are rife with poverty and unemployment, where prostitution, alcoholism, HIV and AIDS, violence and abuse are commonplace. Many families are broken resulting in a high number of orphaned and abandoned children.
Community schools like this in Africa are bringing Christ-centred education to over 500 children who have little hope of breaking free from poverty, and are vulnerable to child labour and the sex industry. The schools provide a loving atmosphere, where God is glorified, and a nutritious daily meal to improve health. As a result, the lives of hundreds of children like Cynthia are being transformed and they are giving their hearts to the Lord.
We are sending this Special Mercy Appeal because of an urgent need for funds to support and develop our community schools in Africa, including Bethesda Mercy school for children with disabilities.
Gifts to this Appeal will help to provide books, stationary, uniforms and daily meals for children, along with resources such as classroom furniture, computers and photocopiers. Funds will also help supplement the running costs of the schools including support for African missionary teachers.
For as little as £8.50 we can provide a school uniform, and with £0.70 a month, a nutritious daily meal that will drastically improve a child’s health and concentration levels in class.
Thank you for your partnership in reaching and impacting Africa’s children.
