Did you know almost 4,000 people serve worldwide with OM, and nearly 300 of them are from the UK? And whether they’re making Jesus known in Bangkok or Birmingham, London or Lusaka - every OMer from the UK can only follow God’s calling because of dedicated support from the office staff at OM in the UK, working in essential spheres like personnel and finance.

Other vital members of the UK back-office team are busy attracting and engaging new recruits, keeping in touch with supporters, maintaining infrastructure like buildings and IT, organising short-term outreaches, fundraising, and much more…it’s a lot of work keeping OM on the road, and we’re looking for help! Specifically, we’re looking to grow our team by engaging folk who are willing to share their skills with us through volunteering.

Would you like to join OM as a Volunteer?

You’d be helping behind-the-scenes in a number of essential support roles, making great use of your existing skills, experience and attributes. Are you a committed Christian over 18 years of age, with the right to work in the UK? Are you involved with a local church, passionate about serving God? Can you offer us at least 5-10 hours per week, for a minimum of 3 months? Some roles do require attendance at our base in north Shropshire, but many can be performed remotely. You’ll work to a role description, Statement of Faith and Volunteer Agreement, and receive all necessary training. You’ll be supported by, and accountable to, an OM line manager.

Hear from existing OM Volunteers

Meet two current Volunteers who have used their skills, in writing and project management respectively, to serve with OM in the UK:

“My name is Beatriz Lima. I was born in Brazil and have lived in the UK for the past eight years. I’ve always been passionate about international mission and writing, so I reached out to OM in the UK to ask whether their Communications team could use a remote volunteer for a few hours a week. They could! And I’m so glad they did. For a year, I had the privilege of interviewing people serving in mission and contributing articles to the OM UK blog and Global magazine. I now have a paid role in communications for another Christian charity; volunteering with OM helped me immensely in understanding a new audience, telling stories with dignity, and writing for change. I’d really encourage anyone with a heart for mission to consider volunteering too.”

“Hi, I'm Mike, now 77. I spent much of my working life in industry and agriculture in the Global South. Returning to the UK I became an Anglican minister for several years, choosing to retire in my 60s. For the past six years I’ve served as a more-or-less fulltime OM Volunteer, managing a drop-in project which has become a registered charity, serving a mostly South Asian community. I’ve loved bringing my faith, my pastoral and cross-cultural skills, and my experience into this situation, while I’ve used my professional experience to deal with the admin required. Hard work but incredibly satisfying."

What roles are on offer?

Here’s one example: if you love telephone work, and enjoy using your warm interpersonal skills in listening and talking to a wide range of people, you could serve as an Outbound Caller with our ‘Engagement HUB’, responding to incoming enquiries about OM.

Using basic computer systems to log and track interactions, you’d be providing clear information enabling enquirers to make meaningful connections with our mission projects and teams. You could help someone take their first steps towards joining OM, praying for our work or supporting us financially!
