Heartbeat - August Mobilising Southern Europe: Disciples Making Disciples Although crosses and churches are visible throughout Southern Europe, the concept of personal conversion is largely absent from the cultural understanding of faith. Many people identify as "Atheist Catholics," viewing their affiliation with the Catholic Church as a matter of cultural identity rather than personal belief. Because the gospel is seldom proclaimed in a way that calls for a response, there is little awareness of the need for a transformed heart through faith in Christ. Only about 1% of the population are evangelical Christians who belong to vibrant communities of committed followers of Jesus. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.” Corinthians 5:20 August 01 May the people of Southern Europe discover the joy of knowing God, glorifying Him and reflecting His love to the world. Ask that many hearts would be awakened to His presence and purpose. August 02 Lift up those who identify as non-religious. Ask God to reveal Himself to them in powerful and personal ways through His Word, His people and His Spirit. August 03 Remember those who profess atheism in Southern Europe. May God soften hearts, remove spiritual barriers and draw many into a relationship with Jesus Christ. August 04 Give thanks for evangelical believers throughout Southern Europe, and ask God to strengthen existing churches and add daily to their number. August 05 Pray that the gospel will reach every region, language group and cultural community in Southern Europe. May the love of Christ cross every social and cultural boundary. August 06 Intercede for the least-reached areas of Southern Europe where there are few churches. Ask God to raise up faithful witnesses and establish vibrant Christian communities. August 14 Pray that churches will develop a heart for sending and supporting missionaries, seeing missions as a vital part of their ministry. August 15 Bring the younger generation in Southern Europe before the Lord. May youth and young adults respond to His call and become passionate followers and witnesses of Christ. “To equip His people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.” Ephesians 4:12 Mobilisation in Southern Europe is about encouraging believers to actively participate in God’s mission, both within their communities and beyond their borders. Although the evangelical church represents a small percentage of the population, there is a growing desire to see Southern European Christians discover their role in sharing the gospel and making disciples. August 16 Pray for students and young professionals to be open to serving on short-term mission trips. May these experiences shape their future ministry and life choices. August 17 Remember OM short-term outreach teams serving alongside local churches this summer. May every outreach bear lasting fruit for God's Kingdom. August 18 Ask God to strengthen partnerships between mission teams and local churches. May unity and shared vision increase the impact of every outreach. August 22 Ask that participants will return home with a renewed commitment to sharing their faith. May missions become a lifestyle rather than a one-time experience. August 23 Pray for effective follow-up after outreach events. May local churches faithfully disciple those who show interest in the gospel. August 24 Lift up first-time mission trip participants. May they experience God's faithfulness and gain confidence in serving Him. August 28 Pray that God would raise co-leaders and leaders from among those participating in short-term missions. May they faithfully invest in the next generation. August 29 Remember young people and students who cannot afford mission trips. May sponsorship opportunities be available so that financial limitations never prevent willing hearts from serving. August 30 Ask God to raise generous individuals, churches and organisations to partner in supporting mission initiatives. May the necessary resources be provided abundantly and faithfully. August 31 Above all, may God be glorified through every church, outreach, mission trip and disciple made. Pray that His love would be known and His Kingdom advance throughout Southern Europe and beyond. Special emphasis is placed on mobilising youth and young adults through outreach opportunities, short-term mission trips and discipleship programmes: these help them view missions as a lifelong calling rather than a one-time event. By partnering with local churches, training leaders and supporting first-time participants, OM’s ministries seeks to build a culture of evangelism, discipleship and service. The ultimate goal is to see believers of all ages equipped, empowered and multiplied as faithful witnesses of Christ in Southern Europe and among the nations.
