The Africa Trek aims to provide a short-term mission experience within a cross-cultural environment. We would like to inspire, equip and disciple participants through providing diverse practical ministry experience.

This 3 month programme is fully aligned with Biblical standards of discipleship and mentoring and includes all the adventure, challenge, and beauty that comes with discipleship. We are praying for participants from every corner of the world who have a desire to go on an outreach and learning adventure to see every corner of Africa reached with the Good news of Jesus!

Over the 3 months you will be travelling around Southern African countries (South Africa, Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe) while being involved in diverse practical ministry experiences such as preaching, teaching Sunday school, showing the Jesus Film, community development, and any other practical ministry services.

Ministry Details

This programme focuses on three areas:

Spiritual formation - this will focus on participants' spiritual growth through routine group Bible study, individual quiet times and corporate worship

Ministry experience - this will include exposure to ministry opportunities within different communities and visiting major tourist attractions.

Character Formation - through group interactions and cultural diverse exposure.


Accommodation on the Trek will be basic. Trekkies will sleep in tents most of the time.


You will prepare food together as a team. 

If you have special dietary needs - please inform us during the application process.


You will be required to arrange your own travel in and out of Africa. More details on which airport to fly in and out of will be provided upon acceptance.

Please do not book any flights until you have received confirmation of acceptance.


Participants should be in good health. You must have a valid yellow fever certificate and be vaccinated against Covid 19. 


You will be travelling through Southern Africa and it will be your responsibility to research beforehand what countries you need to apply for visas for ahead of time, and how much it will cost at the borders.


Price is subject to change according to the exchange rate.

As part of our safeguarding policy, you will require a valid enhanced DBS certificate which may cost an additional £15. 

Applicants must be 18 or over. This placement is tailored towards participants aged 18-30.

It is highly recommended you attend OMUK’s Getting into Gear weekend (GiG) held in the May or October before you go which is a time of training and preparation. This is an additional cost of £75. Please enquire for details.

Different languages will be spoken in the different areas that you will travel to, but the language the Trek group will communicate in is English. Therefore a reasonable level of English is required.

You will be responsible for your own immunisations and anti-malaria medication.
