The Africa Trek aims to provide a short-term mission experience within a cross-cultural set up. We would like to inspire, equip and disciple participants through providing diverse practical ministry experience.

Africa Trek runs for three months at a time with Trekkies and Leaders learning and living life together in a cross cultural context. Participants will be involved in diverse ministry experiences such as Preaching, Teaching Sunday School, Showing the Jesus film, Community development and any other practical ministry prepared by the host.

Ministry Details

This programme focuses on three areas:

Spiritual formation - this will focus on participants spiritual growth through routine group Bible study, individual quiet times and corporate worship & prayer.


Ministry experience - this will include exposure to ministry opportunities within different communities and visiting major tourist attractions.


Character Formation - through group interactions and cultural diverse exposure.

Participant Profile

Africa Trek is for Christians ready to step out of their comfort zone. Participants should be a team player, self motivated and someone ready to share and learn new languages. You should be teachable and ready to experience God on this adventure! This opportunity is tailored towards people aged 18-30.

Accommodation

Accommodation on the Trek will be basic in shared, same-sex accommodation.

Food

You will prepare food together as a team. 

If you have special dietary needs - please inform us during the application process.

Travel

All participants need to fly to Gaborone where the Trek will start and those using buses to drop off at Gaborone bus station.

Please do not book any flights until you have received confirmation of acceptance.

Health

Participants should be in good health. You must have a valid yellow fever certificate and be vaccinated against Covid 19. 

Visa

You will be travelling through Southern Africa and it will be your responsibility to research beforehand what countries you need to apply for visas for ahead of time, and how much it will cost at the borders. Visa to enter Botswana and all other countries to be visited must be obtained prior to travel.

As part of our safeguarding policy, you will require a valid enhanced DBS certificate which may cost an additional £15. 

Applicants must be 18 or over. This placement is tailored towards participants aged 18-30.

Different languages will be spoken in the different areas that you will travel to, but the language the Trek group will communicate in is English. Therefore a reasonable level of English is required.

You will be responsible for your own immunisations and anti-malaria medication. 

There will be a De-briefing in the last country to be visited before participants leave for their respective countries of origin.
