South Africa: Tshega Mission In everything we do at Tshega our aim is to reach the local community as a result we are involved with many different community projects. We run a fully functioning school during the South African school terms as well as feeding schemes, working alongside a local church, sports ministry etc. Participants will also be assisting village children with doing their homework, occasional physical work and dropping off donated items to vulnerable families. When 2 weeks - to 6 months year round (preferably in SA school terms as below) Apply by Minimum 2 months before travel date Cost (excluding flights, insurance, DBS & possible vaccinations) 22 USD per day plus £50 Age 18+ Suitable for The team prefer receiving participants during South African school terms. The dates for the 2024 school period are:Term 1: 17 Jan - 20 MarTerm 2: 03 Apr - 14 JunTerm 3: 09 Jul - 20 SepTerm 4: 01 Oct - 13 Dec Participant Profile Participants should be flexible, hard working and able to take initiative. Accommodation You will be staying in dormitory style housing. The accomodation is on a farm owned by the Tshega's director. It is a few km away from the school, the partcipants will be driven to the base everyday by Tshega transport. Food Monday to Friday dinner will be provided by Tshega, all other meals will be self-catering. You will have an opportunity to buy groceries almost everyday. Travel Please make your own travel arrangements. Information will be provided on different types of transport you can use. If you go for 3 months+, we highly recommend you attend OMUK’s Getting into Gear weekend (GiG), in Shropshire, either in the May or October before your placement. This is a weekend of training and orientation and is an additional £75. Individuals applying must be 18 or over. Under 18's are welcome to apply but must have parental consent and be accompanied by a responsible adult.
