Come and join us as we share the true hope of Christ with people of all ages on Scotland’s beautiful Outer Hebrides. We are planning a partnership between OM and local churches to share the gospel across a group of Isles off the coast of Scotland.

The ministry will be in three teams in three different areas. However, we will begin with a day’s training together and end all together with a Ceilidh (party).

The first team will help with a kids club, youth outreach and personal evangelism. The second and third teams will be conducting personal evangelism in a rural context. There will be apologetic evenings and other events throughout the week which volunteers will help with.

Ministry Details

Travel to Perth, mainland Scotland on the 4th August, where you will meet other members of the team for ministry with a local church. You'll all stay over and travel to the Isle of Benbecula together on Saturday 5th. The price above includes travel between Perth and the outreach, including the ferry crossing.

After arriving on the Saturday, you will eat dinner together, brief on the mission, and get to know each other. Then on the Sunday, you will worship at the host churches and enjoy fellowship together. Monday will be a day of evangelism training in the morning and outreach in the afternoon. You will then spend four days in your teams doing different types of outreach. The week will culminate in a family friendly Ceilidh on the last evening.

On Saturday 12th you'll travel back together to mainland Scotland to the same church in Perth for further ministry, stay over and share and fellowship with them on Sunday 13th before travelling home after lunch.

Please note: some details of this plan may change depending on local circumstances and numbers of volunteers.

Participant Profile

We need people who love Jesus, know His gospel, and want to share it with others. Team members should be energetic and friendly. The isles are bi-lingual with Scottish Gaelic and English. However, a good grasp of English will be sufficient for communication.

People who love working with children will be needed for the first team though prior experience is not essential. Please let us know if you definitely do not want to be involved in youth work.

This outreach is in a rural location with variable weather so be prepared to change plans if the weather does and be equipped for wet and dry.

Any volunteers with particular gifts, e.g. music, evangelistic/apologetic talks, art outreach, etc we will find opportunities to use them during the week if we are informed in advance. Volunteers may be asked to share their testimony, but no-one will be required to speak at a public event.

Accommodation

You could be staying with local families, church manses, holiday homes or a church hall. You may be asked to share a room with people of the same sex.

There are a small number of double beds which married couples can use but we can't guarantee this as it depends how many couples join. For families, adults and children may need to share a room.

Some accommodation will have Wi-Fi but this is not guaranteed. All accommodation has showers available. You may be required to bring a sleeping bag.

Food

Meals and snacks will be provided by the hosts. We can cater for vegetarians.  Please discuss with us in advance if you have allergies to see if we will be able to accommodate your requirements.

Travel

We'll let you know the address to travel to and from in Perth upon acceptance.

On 5th August, the team will travel together from Perth, mainland Scotland to the Isle of Benbecula for 5pm. Transport will be organised either side of the ferry as well as the ferry crossing itself.

On Saturday 12th you'll travel back to the church in Perth using organised transport, including the return ferry crossing. You'll need to make your own way home from Perth on Sunday 13th after lunch.

If you would like to make your own way separately to and from the Isle of Benbecula, please enquire for details on meeting points.

Health

A basic level of physical fitness will be needed for walking between houses.

Church buildings are accessible by flat floors or ramps. However, we cannot guarantee local houses are wheelchair friendly so please let us know if this is a requirement and we will see what we can do.
