Do you have financial and/or fundraising skills and experience? We have various opportunities around the world for people who love Jesus to use their skills on the mission field with OM, toward the purpose of seeing vibrant communities of Jesus followers established among the least reached.

These important roles are vital to ministry on the field and several teams around the world need accountants, finance officers, financial development project managers and bookkeepers.

Responsibilities for finance roles could include providing accountability for the cash transactions conducted in the country and performing duties to assist with accounting functions pertaining to bank accounts, budgets, journal entries, financial reporting and administrative changes, guided by precedent and guidelines of established polices.

A financial development role could include creative fundraising for ministries, projects and outreaches and then monitoring, evaluating and reporting on the use and impact of those funds. It may also include producing and managing written and graphic information from different projects to support a regular stream of funding applications and reports to donors and other partners.

Requirements of the role

The requirements will vary depending on the team and the role but could include:

  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn the OM finance system
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel
  • Organisational skills
  • Be able to work well in a team
  • A willingness to learn the local language
  • A respect for and willingness to learn about other cultures
  • Good communication skills in English
  • Some roles may require formal training such as a degree in a finance or accounting field
  • Knowledge of, and use of, debits and credits and nuances in a not-for-profit accounting system
  • Enjoying see all of the numbers are recorded and reported correctly

Participation in local ministry and team life will also likely be aspects of your role.

For example, in the past, we have offered an opportunity for a full time field accountant in Zambia to use OM’s financial system to track gifts that come in and ensure that the funds are spent on the correct project or ministry. The opportunity also included being involved in the local team ministries. Another example would be a team in Central Asia who advertised for a finance officer for someone who has experience and training in bookkeeping. This option was for someone to provide accountability for all the cash transactions of the field including monitoring bank accounts, creating regular financial reports, journal entries and bookkeeping.

Raising Support

Most people joining OM raise financial support towards the cost of their salaries/expenses. This is usually through gifts from home churches and other supporters. Training and support in this will be provided.
